Plenty of kids have put video games and consoles on their wish lists this year. If you're a gamer parent, then you know what your kid can handle, but if you're not, how do you know what's okay? Not all games are created equal, even with the same E or T rating and it's confusing if you don't play them yourself. In this episode GeekMom Nicole Wakelin is joined by her husband, Russ Wakelin of The D6 Generation Podcast, who's come up with a great way to help non-gamer parents figure out just which games will make them and their kids happy. |

It's been about two years since we all heard the story of little Katie who was bullied by the boys at school because she carried a Star Wars water bottle. Practically overnight the geek community came to her aid, offering support and encouragement for Katie and for everyone who's been the target of bullying. Katie's Mom, Carrie Goldman, has become a spokesperson for the anti-bullying movement. She's first and foremost a parent and her new book, Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher And Child Needs To Know About Ending The Cycle Of Fear, combines that experience with an extensive amount of research. This is truly a must-read for all parents, but especially for those whose children are dealing with the affects of bullying targeting them and their friends. Listen as GeekMom Nicole Wakelin talks with Carrie about how we can help kids stop bullying, teach them to help each other when it happens, and most importantly, create an environment where bullying is simple not acceptable. |

Is it okay for adults to become so immersed in pretending to be someone else? Andrea also speaks to the negative stereotypes associated with the hobby from her point of view as both a Clinical Psychologist and an avid cosplayer. |

It's tough fitting in as a kid but it can feel impossible if you're a geeky kid. Your kids might be into less mainstream things because you're a geeky parent or because they happened to gravitate toward fantasy or science fiction all on their own. Either way, it can leave them feeling like no one "gets them." Actress and writer Jessica Mills has been there as a geek kid growing up in rural Texas. She even turned some of her experiences as an adult into the hit web series Awkward Embraces. Listen in as she talks about her challenges, how she overcame them, and how parents can help their kids feel like they're not weird and find a place where they belong. |
